Here's a sample of upcoming activities

Saturday, October 10 – 25th Annual Allina Health Autumn Woods Classic, Elm Creek Park Reserve, 8:30 a.m. – noon. From hard-core distance runners to casual walkers and kids with energy to burn, this event offers something for everyone! Spectators and racers alike enjoy family-friendly activities and breathtaking colors in the picturesque 4,900-acre Elm Creek Park Reserve. Courses for the TC Orthopedics 10K and Arc’teryx/Calhoun Square 5K wind over rolling hills. Activities for the kids include the Air Traffic Kites and Games 1K.

Friday, Oct. 16 - Beat Back the Buckthorn, Hyland Lake Park Reserve, 9 a.m. – noon. Help preserve our forests and woodlands by removing buckthorn. With no natural controls, this invasive species produces a dense shade that prevents the establishment of native habitat.

Saturday, Oct. 17 – Beginning (wool, not biking) Spinning, Gale Woods Farm, 12:30 – 4:30 p.m. Discover how wool goes from sheep to a skein of yarn. Wendy J. Johnson, fiber artist and author, teaches basic skills for using a spinning wheel: from preparing raw fiber to spinning your own unique yarn. Materials and wheels provided. Reservations required.

Saturday, Oct. 17 – 20th Annual Baker Boo, Baker Park Campground, 1 – 9 p.m. Decorate your campsite for a spooky, family-friendly celebration. Play games, carve a pumpkin, and make a scarecrow. Visit the photo and “gross” stations, meet an owl and turkey vulture, and throw a spear. Try the climbing wall and a 60-second Halloween challenge. Head out on a special medallion hunt and GPS course. March in the costume parade, hear stories, and trick-or-treat through the Baker Boo Neighborhood and campsite loops. Reservation required.
