Coon Rapids Dam rehab is finished!

IMG_9514.JPGWe recently celebrated completion of the comprehensive Coon Rapids Dam rehabilitation project with behind-the-scenes tours of the dam and festivities for the neighborhood, including displays of invasive species, a 25-foot climbing wall, fishing for kids and complimentary treats - the Elm Creek Trail Mix was tempting, but I opted for the cinnamon donut . . .

The major project involved replacement of the huge flow control gates, and involved a partnershipFullSizeRender-1.jpg of many levels of government. Coon Rapids Dam Regional Park is one of our most unique parks, spanning the Mississippi River between Brooklyn Park and Coon Rapids. Visitors can enjoy spectacular scenery, the roar of the water, and rainbows in the mist from our observation walkway and bike path on top of the Dam. A handicapped-accessible fishing and observation deck is just below the Dam.

Three Rivers and the City of Brooklyn Park are now developing a joint master plan for our Regional Park and the Brooklyn Park Environmental Nature Area. Be sure to help us shape the park’s vision and development concept by visiting Coon Rapids Dam Master Plan to learn more, see upcoming public engagement events, and share your ideas.
