National Green Ribbon Schools Awards!

grs-logo-1200.jpgBoth Rockford Middle School and Redtail Middle School in Prior Lake have received the U.S. Education Department's prestigious 2015 Green Ribbon Schools Award. The schools respectively credit their partnerships with our Baker Near-Wilderness Settlement and Richardson Nature Center as major factors in their awards. Across the country, only 58 schools and 14 districts were honored for their exemplary efforts to reduce environmental impact and utility costs, promote better health, and ensure effective environmental education, including civics and green career pathways. Our partnerships have included such activities as swapping naturalists and educators, and field trips to the Baker Near-Wilderness Settlement, Landing and Richardson. The schools also benefitted from Three Rivers' Expand Environmental Education for School-age Children initiative that place a naturalist-in-residence in the school district to mentor teachers.
